1045. Erica Mulkey

a.k.a Unwoman

Erica Mulkey is a San Francisco-based cellist-singer-songwriter. Layered with skillful cello, rich vocals, and electronically arranged beats, her solo music is a futuristic homage to her classical training. Erica performs often in the Bay Area and has been featured at major steampunk, goth, and sci-fi-related events all over North America. She has collaborated with Amanda Palmer, Abney Park, Stripmall Architecture, Voltaire, Rasputina, Jill Tracy, Vernian Process, Caustic, and Attrition. Other influences include Florence and the Machine, Austra, IAMX, Imogen Heap, Siouxsie Sioux, and Beats Antique.

Erica's performaces are quite versatile, able to perform with no amplification, just cello and voice ("acacella"), with or without live looping, or with full backing tracks. She also plays the piano, cello banjo, and theremin.

Erica's 2012 release, The Fires I Started, was her fifth original self-produced solo album and her sixth successful kickstarter project, raising 306% of its goal. This followed her covers album Uncovered Volume 1 and her heartwrenching breakup album, Casualties.

Erica performs solo and as a guest in other bands throughout the US. She has been featured as a solo act at Steamcon I, II, and III (Seattle), Wicked Faire (New Jersey), Clockwork Alchemy/Fanime (San Jose, CA), Teslacon (Madison, WI), Her Royal Majesty's Steam Symposium, WorldCon (Reno, NV 2011), Victoria Steam Exposition (Victoria, BC), and other major events.
